Do You Hear The People Sing Burnie Musical Society Location: Burnie Arts and Function Centre Map Burnie Musical Society - Do You Hear The Pople Sing The Burnie Musical Society is excited to present a variety show, with songs from the past 15 years of Burnie Musical Society Shows.

This show will feature many local entertainers along with past Burnie Community artists who will return to reprise their roles.

The show will also feature some guest performers from other local community groups.

A Girl is a Half-Formed Thing” is an adaptation by Annie Ryan of a young adult novel by Eimear McBride, which recounts the life of the unnamed narrator (Girl) and her unnamed brother as he struggles with cancer, and she struggles with psychological, physical, and sexual abuse. A one woman show running for 85 minutes that was described by the New York Times as " A ghostly and beautiful play". The play contains strong language and depicts acts of violence. Not recommended for children.

The Road That Cuts The Rivers Ulverstone Repertory Theatre Society Location: Ulverstone Masonic Hall, 10 Patrick St, Ulverstone Map The Road That Cuts The Rivers
New work by emerging playwright Ross Hay, this gripping drama explores the lives of people in Burnie in a fictionalized ‘noir’ version of the city. Kaila dreams of getting out of Burnie and seeing the world. Her friends are settling down, her mum’s boyfriend is moving in and she’s fed up of Burnie boys. All she has is her car. When a good-looking foreign backpacker breaks down outside the local nightclub, Kaila sees her chance. Can she overcome her problems, her fears and her mum and find a way out on the Bass Highway.

This humorous, heart-warming and sometimes edgy story draws on the experiences of young people in Burnie and ultimately expresses the challenges and joys of growing up in North West Tasmania.

Written in collaboration with Tasmania’s Blue Cow Theatre emerging writers program. Produced by Ulverstone Repertory Theatre Society with the assistance of multiple performing arts companies across North West Tasmania and the broader state. Grant funding provided by Arts Tasmania.

Suitable for audiences 16 years and older.
Includes flashing lights.
Content & Trigger warning: This play includes depictions and references to social dysfunction, violence and self-harm. Although every effort has been made to incorporate these in a sensitive and artistically sound context, some patrons may be upset by these scenes.

Disney’s Moana JR. is a 60-minute musical adaptation of the 2016 Disney animated film, bringing the adventures of Moana and her village of Motunui to life onstage. Moana JR. features all the beloved songs from the film, written by Tony®, GRAMMY, Emmy, and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foa’i, and Mark Mancina, including “How Far I’ll Go,” “Shiny,” and “You’re Welcome.”

This thrilling and heartwarming coming-of-age story follows the strong-willed Moana as she sets sail across the Pacific to save her village and discover the truth about her heritage. Moana and the legendary demigod Maui embark on an epic journey of self-discovery and camaraderie as both learn to harness the power that lies within. With empowering messages of bravery and selflessness, Moana JR. is sure to bring out the hero within each of us.

Celebrating the rich history of Oceania and based on the beliefs and cultures of the people of the Pacific Islands, Moana was developed in collaboration with an Oceanic Trust – a group of anthropologists, cultural practitioners, historians, linguists, and choreographers from the Pacific Islands. The same respect and attention to detail used to develop the film was carried forward in the creation of this stage adaptation,
